There is nothing like a splash of humor to start off one’s day… but this is real, so I’m not sure it qualifies.
Just when you think you’ve seen everything, along comes some real gem of design utopia, a pinnacle of thought and creativity that inspires me to stay in business in hopes of achieving design greatness myself someday. I’d like to pass this on to you, gentle reader, in the hopes that you also can be inspired to greatness.
Checkpoint Software Technologies LTD:
Not only is the logo terrible, but they stuck it on a bland stock template that you might see anywhere online. The pink logo resting atop the light blue template really gouges out one’s eyes. It’s like satan’s little sister herself tried to do evil on the world.

Definitely not the most inspired logo - looks like no effort was put into the typeface (Helvetica, or similar - very original), and the pink and blue really do not complement each other.
To me, the computer image looks a little too much like Windows ‘95 clipart, and there’s too many elements in the logo for it to be instantly recongisable.

You are the king of understatement, (or at least a grand duke of understatement) :)
It looks like the image was drawn in MS paint in about one minute.

Maybe the CEO asked his niece to draw something pretty for him.. you know.. because she was dying or something. When she handed it to him, she said, Uncle Tim.. would you please use this for your software tech company’s logo? Please!? it’s my last dying wish!

If that’s the case, that would make me a big jerk, I suppose :)

Something doesn’t seem right. Their site template might be bland, but it’s not poorly designed along the same lines as the logo. And it’s a public company (CHKP) with > $500M revenue per year, so it’s not as if they don’t have the resources to hire someone to design a better logo. There’s got to be some hidden joke there, or maybe just a marketing effort to get people to talk about how horrible the logo is.

Good thinking Ade. It would be just the things to create lots of traffic. But I think it would create the most traffic among designers, and they could not overlook that logo to make the jump to customer status.
But the template - I think it’s a stock template. That doesn’t tell me anything special or give me any especially favorable impressions of the company… and I bet most designers would feel the same way.

Obviously designed by the CEO’s daughter (age 7). They’re based in Tel Aviv, which also suggests that they may not be at the cutting edge of graphic design philosophy.
