W3C Growing Irrelevant?

August 21st, 2007

.

w3CInsightful article by Jeff Croft, in which he muses “if the reason CSS’ version number has moved exactly one decimal point in almost a decade is, at least in part, that there are no designers on the W3C team.”

1. I didn’t find a single name I recognize as a top web designer or developer.
2. I didn’t find a single person who has ever worked as a web designer.

Worth a read.

Hello, just wanted to comment on your comment (detailed below). You were right on! It irritates me when people spit out the word “graphic design” and think that it’s just pretty illustrations… You’re my hero for the day for saying what I wanted to say, but in precise words! THanks!

” ‘Graphic Design’ is communication using text and images. This is illustration, and only one single style of illustration, at that.”

Thanks Jimmy - my feelings for smashing magazine have gone down somewhat after that last article. I think what is really bothersome is that they called those people “masters of graphic design.”
