Today I drove past 1) the local Carmel AT&T store and then 2) The Keystone Crossing Mall Apple Store with the intent of getting photos of the iPhone lines.
The AT&T store is the place to be if you want an iPhone. Granted it was only 11am, but your chances are a lot better there. There were only three people there, who were nice enough to let me get my picture with them. They were all behaving nicely and patiently waiting by the “Please wait here for assistance sign”. Good luck guys!

Then I drove down to the Keystone Crossing Mall. The parking lot outside the apple store was chock-full of Volkswagen bugs, BMW’s, and other sweet rides- pretty much typical or This location except for the inordinate amount of VW bugs. I grabbed my camera and walked to the front door.
As you can see, disorderly conduct was prohibited.
I walked and and took a photo of the line, which wrapped around the side of the store. It was a very orderly bunch. There were white barriers up, which doubles back on itself a few times like the line at an amusement park:
After my flash went off, a lot of people looked up and I smiled and waved. I headed off to find the door of the apple store so that I could get some photos of the people at the front of the line.
Little did I know that there was a very stern security guard just behind the sign on the left. He asked me if I just took a picture, I said yes. Then he told me that photographs in the mall were strictly prohibited and I would have to leave right that moment.
So I did. I’m not a hooligan; but if I was I’d have came back and taken more photos with my cell phone.
That line was full of 30-somethings, many of them had their Apple iBooks and were presumably working (or perhaps they took the day off?)
If any of you who were in that line read this, be sure to leave a comment and tell me how the wait went. Did Apple provide wifi there?

Ian,
I fell down laughing. My friend, Bill (http://2sentencesorless.com), who drives a BMW, will be camped out tonight buying his.
Too funny!

Ian,
I’ll be glad to leave some comments about my wait. I had planned on going to the Carmel store - here’s hoping all the other bailing from the Keystone Apple Store don’t end up ther with me!

Hey, Ian!
I had a feeling that the Carmel store would be the place to go. At 6:29pm I walked out of there, shiny iPhone in hand.
And let me tell you this: it’s every bit as good as the ads on TV make it seem.
