Photoshop, the Old Soviet Way

I found this post amazing. Someone dug up a bunch of old Soviet photographs that had been retouched, massively in some cases. Of course this was way before computers- when you had to retouch photos without photoshop.

All the good old days. “Photoshop” was actually a photo shop. See how “photoshop” can actually make two words when a space is added? You may have missed it. It’s a room where you’d paint on photos with this black substance, and where dodging and burning was done by directing and removing light from the image while processing.

Even more sinister - the people were removed from important state photos because they fell out of favor with the government (which resulted in execution.)

I guess it might be fun to call a paper flier their “website” of the era.
